The Premier Fishing Tournament In The Bahamas

Itinerary

Welcome to the White Marlin War & Caveman Slam.

This year’s tournament will be a 3-night event, commencing on Sunday. Partcipants will enjoy 2 competitve fishing days in one of The Bahamas’ most fertle fishing grounds. Registration is limited to 28 partcipatng boats.

Sunday April 14th

  • Captain’s Meeting at Club House
  • Dinner at Sharkey’s

Monday April 15th

  • Tournament Fishing Day
  • Dinner at Sharkey’s

Tuesday April 16th

  • Tournament Fishing Day
  • Dinner Banquet at Sharkey’s

Entry Fee: $2,800

Includes:

  • Two (2) colored towels for fishing days
  • Four (4) tournament shirt & four (4) nightly dinners per participating boat

All anglers must be registered prior to the start of the tournament.

To facilitate your stay, Hawk’s Nest will offer:

Diesel fuel, gasoline fuel, beer, soda, ice, laundry facilities, ocean view rooms with clean showers & pool facilities. Hawk’s Nest takes Visa, MasterCard, Travelers Checks or Cash.
The Tournament Committee & the entire staff at Hawk’s Nest are looking forward to the arrival of old friends & introducing our Marina to new ones.

Tournament Rules

1. TOURNAMENT LOCATION:

• Hawk’s Nest Resort & Marina, Cat Island, Bahamas

2. TOURNAMENT FISHING DAYS:

• Monday April 15
• Tuesday April 16

3. BILLFISH CLASSIFICATIONS:

• Billfish are classified as:
• White Marlin (or Hatchet Marlin)
• Blue Marlin
• Sailfish, Spearfish, or any unidentifiable billfish
• Participants are to RELEASE all billfish
• Tagging is encouraged
• No points will be awarded for boated billfish
• Measurements for mounts should be carefully taken in the water

4. FISHING HOURS:

• 7:30am to 3:30pm
• “LINES IN” announcement at 7:30am will signify the tournaments ‘Bimini Start’ from outside the breakwater of Hawk’s Nest Marina
• “LINES OUT” announcement at 3:30pm. Each line must be removed from the water unless a hook-up time has been registered with the
tournament official radio
• All boats must be inside breakwater of Hawk’s Nest Marina by 5:30pm

5. FISHING BOUNDARIES:

• There will be no regulated boundaries
• Boats must depart & return through Hawk’s Nest Marina Inlet which is strictly regulated
• Tournament boats must maintain idle speed to the end of the inlet

6. SCORING:

• Only released billfish will be qualified for billfish categories
• 600 points for White Marlin (or Hatchet Marlin)
• 150 points for Blue Marlin
• 100 points for Sailfish, Spearfish, or any unidentifiable billfish
• 400 points for “Grand Slam.” Slam must include a White Marlin, a Blue Marlin, & Sailfish, Spearfish, or any unidentifiable billfish. One bonus
per boat during the tournament, all 3 species must be caught on same day. Slam points will be awarded to overall points, not daily points.
• The team that accumulates the most points will be the declared winner
• In the event of a tie in points, team placement is determined by the earliest verified release time

7. LINES & TACKLE:

• Eight (8) lines are permitted per boat
• Six (6) hooked lines, two (2) teaser lines, no hooks
• Maximum IGFA rated 100# test is permitted
• There is no bonus for lighter line & subject to random testing by the tournament committee
• The leader shall meet all IGFA standards

8. CALCUTTA (US Cash Only**):

• Billfish category
         • Overall points (all billfish) $1000
         • Overall points (white marlin only) $1000
         • Daily overall points (all billfish) $1000 total
• Meat Fish category
         • Overall Heaviest Stringer (wahoo, tuna & dolphin) $1000
         • Overall Heaviest Species (wahoo, tuna, dolphin) $1000
                 > If one species isn’t caught, money will be split between the other 2 species
         • (2) Daily Heaviest Fish (wahoo, tuna or dolphin) $1000 total
• $8K is required to go all in, however be prepared for additional categories.
• Hawk’s Nest does not take a percentage of Calcutta winnings.

9. RECORDING OF SCORES:

• A billfish is considered officially caught and released when the swivel hits the tip of the rod or crew member grabs the leader or the wind-on
leader (not the double line) comes into the rod tip.
• Video &/or still image verification is required for the billfish catch to be eligible
• Released billfish must be called into the official radio stating:
• Boat name
• Angler
• Time of release.
• If transmitting is a problem due to distance you may phone us at (242) 342-7050 or relay your time to another boat participating
• Please, no deliberate jerking or snatching of leaders.
• Crewmen are reminded to always exercise extreme caution to ensure no catch is disqualified because someone other than the angler
touched the line or tackle while the fish is being caught.
• Hook-up times should not be called in unless the fish is hooked just prior to the 3:30pm deadline.

10. PROTEST:

• This is an “Honor System” tournament with each angler being responsible for his or her own performance
• Any person witnessing a rule violation should submit a protest in writing to the tournament committee no later than 6:00pm on the day of
the violation
• All decisions made by the tournament committee are final

• Wahoo
• Dolphin
• Tuna
• All tuna species are permitted

2. WEIGH IN:

• All fish must be weighed-in every day.
• Whole fish cannot be kept on a boat unless they are cut or marked
• The committee reserves the right to board any boat at any time to check for whole fish
• If a whole unmarked fish is found on-board any boat, that boat will be disqualified from the tournament & any monies will not be returned
• No boat can off-load their catch for weigh-in until verified & counted by a Tournament official
• All fish must be weighed-in every day.
• Whole fish cannot be kept on a boat unless they are cut or marked
• The committee reserves the right to board any boat at any time to check for whole fish
• If a whole unmarked fish is found on-board any boat, that boat will be disqualified from the tournament & any monies will not be returned
• No “mutilated” fish will be weighed in.
• The Weigh-master’s decision is final & cannot be appealed
• The tail must be attached to the fish. If any part of the tail is “dangling” the fish will be considered as “mutilated.”
• Cuts suffered by a fish inside a fish-box will be scrutinized on an individual basis
• Participants are encouraged to utilize fish-boxes with adequate amount of ice and ice water to prevent the scarring of fish
• In case of a mechanical breakdown, fish cannot be transferred from one boat to another

3. SCORING:

• One point per pound of eligible Wahoo, Dolphin, & Tuna
• The team with the greatest sum of three (3) qualifying species over the two (2) days will be declared the winner
• If only two (2) qualifying species are weighed, the largest sum of two species will win
• If only one (1) qualifying species is weighed, the largest qualifying fish will win
• In the event of a tie in points, team placement is determined by the weigh in time. Earliest verified released times
